HEYWOOD PARK ADVENTURE PLAY AREA, North Vancouver, BC
The Heywood Park Adventure Play Area combines new play equipment and other elements to create a diverse play area for a wide range of ages that is relates to the park’s natural environment. The play area is organised around a central path that meanders through coarsely grasses earthen mounds mimicking the flow of a river through the mountains. The path links to a variety of elements including:
-Zip Line – 15m long custom fabricated out of cedar.
-Stilt Forest – cedar posts set into the ground with cleats attached to the side of the post at different heights
-Spiral Mound & King of the Castle– cedar logs set on edge connecting from the fish fort to a small platform on top of a mound.
-Fish Fort – a quite play area that includes 2.5m long custom fabricated salmon for climbing.
-Log walk – cedar logs are set in-ground and on the ground to provide a challenging log walk.
-Play Structures – A new play structure (Playbooster Tree House) and swing set is added and an existing play structure (Kompan Elements) re-located.
-Renovation of an existing washroom to ensure it is fully accessible.
The design of the playground also looks to re-establish the riparian forest along Mackay Creek through increasing the buffer zone between the creek and the play ground and restoring the native vegetation.
